Terms of Service

The terms that apply when you use this website, and what they do and do not cover.

This website is not for emergencies

If you are in crisis, or someone is in danger, call 9-1-1 or go to the Bluewater Health Emergency Department at 89 Norman Street in Sarnia. Nothing on this site is monitored around the clock, and a message sent through the contact form may not be read for some time.

These terms cover your use of the Lambton Counselling Services website. Using the site means you accept them. They do not cover the counselling you receive, which is governed by the consent and service agreement you make directly with your therapist.

1. Who these terms are with

Lambton Counselling Services operates this website and the counselling practice at 108 Kathleen Avenue, Sarnia, Ontario N7T 1C8. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean Lambton Counselling Services. "You" means anyone using this website.

2. What this website is for

This site exists so you can learn about the practice, read about the people who work here, understand the kinds of counselling we offer, find out how insurance and coverage work, and get in touch with us. That is its whole purpose. It is an information and introduction service, not a clinical service.

3. Nothing here is clinical advice

The service descriptions, the practitioner profiles and everything else published on this site are general information. They are not a diagnosis, not a treatment plan, and not advice about your particular situation.

Reading this site, sending us a message, or requesting an appointment does not by itself create a therapist and client relationship. That relationship begins when you and a therapist agree to work together and you have given informed consent.

Do not delay seeking care, and do not stop a treatment you are already on, because of something you read here. Talk to a qualified professional about your own circumstances.

4. Our practitioners and their regulators

The therapists at Lambton Counselling Services are registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario or with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, and each carries their own professional liability insurance. Both colleges keep a public register, and you are welcome to look anyone up on it.

Some practitioners listed on this site work in modalities that are not regulated health professions in Ontario. Energy medicine is an example. Those services are not psychotherapy, they are not overseen by the colleges above, and they are generally not eligible for insurance reimbursement. Their profiles describe what they actually do, and you should read them on that basis.

Where a practitioner works under clinical supervision, that is stated on their profile. If you have a concern about a regulated practitioner’s professional conduct, the right place to raise it is their college. Ask us and we will point you to the correct one.

5. Booking and appointments

You can request an appointment through the contact form, by phone, or through our online booking system. A request is not a confirmed appointment until we confirm it with you.

Our online booking system is operated by Jane. Once you are on it, Jane’s terms and Jane’s privacy policy apply alongside ours.

Payment arrangements and receipts are set by each practitioner, and are explained to you when you first make contact and again at intake. We ask for 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations with less notice, and missed appointments, are charged the full session fee, as set out in the Cancellation Policy on the Insurance & Coverage page.

6. Virtual and telephone sessions

Some sessions are offered by secure video or by telephone. You will need a private space, a device you control, and a connection you can rely on. Virtual care suits some people and some concerns better than others, and your therapist will tell you plainly if they think meeting in person is the better fit.

Virtual sessions are for clients who are physically located in Ontario at the time of the session, because that is where our practitioners are registered to practise.

7. Using the contact form

The contact form is for general inquiries, questions about our services, and requests to be connected with a practitioner. Please do not use it to book urgent care, to report an emergency, or to send detailed personal health information. Email is not a secure channel.

8. Keeping the site accurate

We work to keep this site current and correct. Practitioner availability, training, hours and coverage all change, sometimes at short notice. If you find something out of date, please tell us and we will fix it. We cannot promise the site will be free of errors, or available without interruption.

9. Content on this site

The text, photographs, logo and design on this site belong to Lambton Counselling Services, or to the practitioners and photographers who created them, and are protected by copyright.

You are welcome to read it, print a copy for your own use, and share a link to any page. Please ask us before republishing it, selling it, or using it to promote something else.

This site links out to our booking system, to practitioners’ own websites, to community organizations and to crisis services. We include those links because we think they are useful. We do not control those sites, and we are not responsible for their content, their accuracy, or how they handle your information.

11. What we are responsible for

We provide this website as it is. To the extent the law allows, Lambton Counselling Services is not liable for loss or damage arising from your use of this site, from information published on it, from a link out to another site, or from the site being unavailable.

Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited by law. Nothing here affects the rights you have under your agreement with your therapist, or the rights Ontario health law gives you over your own health information.

12. Ontario law applies

These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the laws of Canada that apply in Ontario. Any dispute arising from them goes to the courts of Ontario.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The current version always sits at this address, and the date at the foot of the page tells you when it last changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

14. Reaching us

If you have a question about these terms, or about anything on this site, get in touch.
