What It Is

Psychotherapy shaped around you

Individual psychotherapy is a private, one-on-one space to talk through what’s weighing on you and work toward change, at a pace that feels right.

Our practitioners support people with anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions, drawing on evidence-based approaches such as CBT, IFS, and EMDR. Sessions are shaped around your goals, your history, and what you hope to get from psychotherapy.

If you’d also like to explore meaning, purpose, or the spiritual side of your experience, your sessions can include spiritual psychotherapy.

Psychology Meets the Soul

Spiritual Psychotherapy

Spiritual psychotherapy works with the whole person, including the parts of you that don’t fit neatly into a diagnosis. It is an integrative approach that weaves together evidence-based psychological practices such as CBT, IFS, and EMDR with a recognition that many of our struggles are rooted in something deeper: questions of meaning, identity, disconnection, and the search for purpose.

It isn’t religious, and it doesn’t require any particular belief system. It simply acknowledges that human beings are more than their thoughts and behaviours, and that lasting healing often means working at the level of the whole self.

At Lambton Counselling Services, our practitioners are trained in spiritual psychotherapy alongside their clinical credentials, so there’s room for both in your sessions.

Who It’s For

This might be for you if…

Spiritual psychotherapy tends to resonate most deeply with people who:

  • Feel like conventional psychotherapy has only scratched the surface.
  • Are navigating a major life transition, loss, or spiritual crisis.
  • Struggle with a sense of disconnection from themselves, others, or meaning.
  • Are curious about the intersection of psychology and deeper forms of wisdom.
  • Have tried to think their way out of their struggles and found it doesn’t fully work.
  • Are open to a holistic view of healing that includes the body and spirit alongside the mind.
You don’t need to be spiritual, religious, or even sure about any of this. Curiosity and an open mind are the only requirements.
FAQ

Common questions

Is spiritual psychotherapy evidence-based?

Yes. It incorporates evidence-based methods like CBT, IFS, and EMDR within a broader framework that also honours the spiritual and existential dimensions of human experience. You’ll find rigorous clinical practice alongside a deeper perspective.

Do I need to have a particular belief system?

Absolutely not. Spiritual psychotherapy is not tied to any religion or spiritual tradition. It simply recognizes that human beings have a dimension of experience that includes meaning, purpose, and soul, and that addressing it can be part of healing.

How is spiritual psychotherapy different from other approaches?

Most psychotherapy approaches focus primarily on thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Spiritual psychotherapy also explores identity, meaning, values, and the deeper patterns that shape how we experience ourselves and the world.

Is this covered by insurance?

Individual psychotherapy, including spiritual psychotherapy, is provided by Registered Psychotherapists (CRPO) and Registered Social Workers (OCSWSSW), whose services are covered by most extended health benefit plans. See our Insurance & Coverage page for details.
